What is the AID?
It is a great start to your time in Wageningen! The summer AID intake of 2024 takes place from August 16th through August 21st.
Are you starting a study at Wageningen University and Research or Aeres Hogeschool? Then the Annual Introduction Days (AID) are a great start of your student years! During the AID you will get to know the city like the back of your hand and really learn what a life as a student is all about. During the entire week there are many fun, interesting, exciting, and fascinating activities which will allow you to quickly feel at home in Wageningen, get to know the University and what it has to offer and get to know your study program and fellow students.
Every year approximately 95% of new students participate in the AID. If you join in the action you will experience the AID with a group of 10 students (Dutch and international), accompanied by 2 student mentors (your 'AID mom and dad'). You will visit several activities with your group, go to the student associations and you get all kinds of useful information about your study and the city of Wageningen. A lot of groups keep in touch after the AID. Participating in the AID is an opportunity to make life-long friends.
If you participate in the AID, you'll get to know the sports associations, student associations, the possibilities for going out, your classmates, the WUR and all the other things that Wageningen has to offer. Besides study-related activities, there are also many other things to do such as a sports day, a cultural night and a festival. Nothing is mandatory and it is of the utmost importance that you have a lot of fun! If you would like more information before or during the AID, please contact us.
The AID is not just a great and important week, but it is also especially unforgettable. A lot of students in Wageningen remember their AID and therefore strongly suggest that future students in Wageningen participate in this great week. If you want to become a member of a student association, you will have to take into account that you'll probably have to participate in the associations' introduction week, which takes place after the AID.
Bachelor
If you are going to start a bachelor this year, you will be placed into a group of other bachelor students, with at least one other student from your study. In this way, you will already know someone from your study. There is also a study day included in the AID program, which gives you the chance to meet all your study mates and get to know more about the study program itself. The international bachelor students will have at least two other international students in their group, but also Dutch students. Each group will be guided by two mentors (your AID 'parents') and they will make sure you get to know your way around Wageningen!
Master
Are you coming to Wageningen to do your master's program? We invite all master students to participate in the AID and we want to give you a warm welcome in Wageningen! As a master student you can participate in the full program of the AID.
All master students will be placed in a group with at least one other student from their master's program, so you will always know someone from your study. During the Study Day program part you will get to know all your fellow study mates and everything about your study program will be explained. Each group will be guided by two mentors (your AID 'parents') and they will make sure you get to know your way around Wageningen!
Exchange
You are also very welcome to join the AID if you follow an exchange program at Wageningen University and Research. You will be placed with at least one other exchange student and on the Study Day you will meet other exchange students and learn more about the WUR. The rest of the time you will follow the same AID program as the other students. This also applies for students coming from Dutch universities that are going to follow a minor.
Neurodiverse mentor groups
We want everyone to join the AID and have a great time. However, some people feel that participating in the AID can be very overwhelming. We want everyone to feel included and heard, so that is why we are now offering for the first time to join a neurodiverse group. This includes that you group will (mostly) consist of people who are neurodiverse and mentors who know what you might be going through. This will hopefully ensure that there is a safe space in your group to talk about your needs if you require more time to process stimuli for example. If you feel like this neurodiverse group is a good fit for you, you can choose to join a neurodiverse mentor group when you register for the AID.
We would also like to point out that if someone does feel overwhelmed and wants to go to a space that is more quiet, we offer a room inside Forum on the campus where people can go. This room is 466, which is located in the library of Forum. Moreover, during the festival on the last evening we will provide some headphones at the chill area. But you could also take your own with you if you want some time to catch a break and relax without a lot of background noise.
