When arriving in the Netherlands for the first time there are many things that you have to arrange. All necessary information can be found on the WUR website.
Every student of Wageningen University and Aeres Hogeschool Wageningen can participate in the AID. As a student starting in Wageningen you can apply as an AID participant. As a current student you can apply as either a Mentor or CREW member. The AID is all about getting to know your fellow students, the student life and the city Wageningen.
The address for the AID is Droevendaalsesteeg 2. You can park your car in the (free) car park next to Radix. The nearest bus stop is either Campus/Forum or Campus/Atlas. All information about traveling to Campus can be found at the website of Wageningen Campus.
Your dietary preferences or food allergies/intolerances should be filled in in your myAID account. If you filled it in here, we will take these into account during lunches and dinner. When receiving your food during lunch and dinner, please indicate your dietary preference once again to make sure all goes well.
Of course! You are more than welcome to participate in the AID!
We want everyone to join the AID and have a great time. However, some people feel that participating in the AID can be very overwhelming. We want everyone to feel included and heard, so that is why we are now offering for the first time to join a neurodiverse group. This includes that you group will (mostly) consist of people who are neurodiverse and mentors who know what you might be going through. This will hopefully ensure that there is a safe space in your group to talk about your needs if you require more time to process stimuli for example. If you feel like this neurodiverse group is a good fit for you, you can choose to join a neurodiverse mentor group when you register for the AID.
We would also like to point out that if someone does feel overwhelmed and wants to go to a space that is more quiet, we offer a room inside Forum on the campus where people can go. This room is B0103, which is located in the library of Forum. Moreover, during the festival on the last evening we will provide some headphones at the chill area. But you could also take your own with you if you want some time to catch a break and relax without a lot of background noise.
If you have a food allergy, you can mention it when you register in the registration form, and it will be taken into account, so you don't need to worry.
If you still have concerns you would like to talk about if you have a physical disability for example, we would like to get in touch with you to see if and how we can help you during the AID. It is very important that you can enjoy the AID to the fullest. Mail to info.aid@wur.nl, so we can discuss your options with you.
Yes, the religious student associations are featured throughout the AID program, and you can find information about them online too.
During the AID room B0103 in Forum is reserved for prayer.
You can cancel your registration as AID participant or Mentor until the 29th of July, and get a full refund. If you cancel after the 29th of July, you will not be refunded.
If you want to cancel your registration you will have to send an email to info.aid@wur.nl.
During the AID, the CREW at our Cental Point are there to assist you with questions you might have about the AID. They have a front-office that is open during the AID programme time Friday-Wednesday (at least) 09:00-23:00. You can find them in the Forum Building, 1st Floor in room B0106.
Of course you can also contact them by phone (+31 317 484200), by WhatsApp (+31317484200), email (info.aid@wur.nl) or through the message option in your personal myAID webpage.
Participating in the AID will guarantee you six days full of fun activities! Among others, we will organize a FrieslandCampina Sports Day, a cultural night and a festival! Find the full program here. We will also provide you with a nice group and two mentors who will guide you through the week. You will get to know fellow students, the associations and all that Wageningen has to offer. We will take care of your lunch and dinner during the AID and introduce you to your new student life. So there are only advantages in participating in what will be your best week ever!
The registrations for both BSc/MSc mentor have closed.
If you want to cancel your registration as a BSc or MSc mentor, you will get a full refund until July 29th. If you cancel after July 29th, you will not be refunded.
To cancel your registration, you'll have to send an email to info.aid@wur.nl.
The participation fee for BSc & MSc mentors is €37,50. MSc mentors receive a full refund of their participation fee when they are present at the Mentor Moment on the 15th of August and when they are present during the AID.
Registration for the AID, as well as for only participation in the Study-day, is still open.
So register, pay and start with the AID on this Friday!
Registration for the AID closes on Friday August 16 2024.
For participation in only the Studyday on August 19, registration closes on August 18.
Yes, of course! The AID is not only about the city Wageningen. It is also about getting started with your student life and meeting fellow students. During the AID you will also be introduced to various associations like sports, study or student related associations. It is also the perfect time to make friends and already know some people before your study even starts!
If you don't have a room in Wageningen yet, you can probably stay with someone else in your AID-group. This can be arranged by your mentor. Another option might be sleeping at a association house, you can find information on the websites of SSR-W, KSV Franciscus, Unitas, Nji-Sri, Argo and Ceres (or other associations!). On the Facebook page 'Wageningen Student Plaza' many sleeping places for the AID are offered. If this is not possible, you can check the housing desk website or Kamernet for a sleeping place or room to rent. Housing organisation Idealis takes care of a major part of student housing in Wageningen, you can subscribe for a room on their website but you will not be the only one subscribing. Take into account that subscription does not result immediately in a room.
Don’t have a place to stay during the AID and you also cannot stay with any of your group members? Come stay at the AID campsite! You can sleep here in your own tent (max size is a 6-person tent) during the entire AID. The cost for your whole AID (six days) are €50. The camping is equipped with everything you need: showers, toilets, breakfasts and lots of fun. So if you don’t want to miss a moment of the AID, fix your spot at the campsite during registration or via myAID!
Yes, it is possible to arrive later than your first day. You will get a discount of 5 euros per day. Please, send an email to info.aid@wur.nl to arrange this.
You can choose to only take part in the study day with or without a BBQ with your fellow students. Furthermore, you can buy seperate tickets for the Singalong (access only with a WUR card) and the festival here. The infomarket on campus and street theatre in the city centre are free to visit for everyone.
Are you not 18 years yet when you come to Wageningen? No problem! You can just join all the activities of the AID and will be placed into a group with some other under 18 participants. In the Netherlands, you are not allowed to drink alcohol or smoke under the age of 18. Therefore, you will get a special 18 minus wristband during the AID.
It is very handy if you take the following items with you:
- A mobile phone, to look on the online schedule on myAID
- The e-mail with your registration code (either printed or on your phone)
- ID
- A bicycle with good lighting (to cycle between the locations)
- Sportswear and in- and outdoor gym shoes (for the Sportsday)
- Water bottle or reusable cup (we don't provide single use cups for lunch)
- Sunscreen or a rain coat and umbrella, depending on the weather
- Most associations only accept a debit card as payment, some also accept cash. A credit card is not widely accepted, so it is not recommended to bring along to the associations. At all the AID activities on campus you can pay with credit card (Visa, Mastercard or Diners Club) or debit. You cannot pay with cash!
The registration fee for AID 2024 is €75 for early birds, and €85,- if you register after the 10th of July. It includes all lunches and dinners, and participation in all activities. Please, pay this before the AID. You can pay online via myAID (heading finances). If you are experiencing problems with the online payment it is also possible to pay by card during registration on the first day of the AID.
If you are a MSc student from outside EU/EFTA, your registration fee is already included in your tuition fee. This does not apply for exchange students.
If you are not accepted for your studies, you can cancel your registration for the AID without costs before July 29th. After that, we will charge all the costs and you will not receive any refund.
In your AID group, you will have some other people from your study, which you will get to know during the whole week. You will also be given the opportunity to meet fellow students during the study day, where only people from your study will be present.
For exchange students, this is a bit different. As you do not follow courses of one degree, we will try to place you with another exchange student. During the study day, the focus will be on understanding the Dutch systems.
For students of Aeres Hogeschool, you will be placed together with other students of Aeres Hogeschool. During the study day, you will be visiting Aeres Hogeschool and learn more about studying in general.
